Fleur van Leeuwen is a professor in Human Rights Law at Koç University, Istanbul, Turkey. Her research focuses on women’s human rights, gender mainstreaming, reproductive rights, human rights in childbirth and violence against women. She holds an LL.M. in public international law and a PhD in human rights law from Utrecht University, the Netherlands. She previously worked inter alia, at the Clara Wichmann Institute: Expert Centre on Women and Law; the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights; and Yeditepe University and Boğazici University, in Istanbul Turkey. She is the co-founder of the Istanbul Human Rights Network, a network of human rights scholars based in Istanbul. Besides her academic work, she established Havva Human Rights Projects, an organisation which conducts research and projects in the aforementioned areas.
